Farzad Kiyafar
Arman
Farzad Kiyafar is an Iranian - American filmmaker based in Seattle. He got his BFA in Cinema and MFA in Dramatic Literature from University of Cinema in Tehran, Iran.
After immigrating to the US, he pursued his second MFA in Editing at American Film Conservatory in Los Angeles. His body of works explore different areas of filmmaking from directing shorts to editing.
Director Statement
Filmmaking is a powerful platform for me to tell human stories and their journeys. As an Iranian - American queer immigrant filmmaker, I have been always interested in exploring identity and cinema is a wonderful media for me to be a voice of a community specifically queer community whose their stories need to be told more than ever.
To me “Arman” is about the struggle of coming out to your loved ones and finding your voice as an immigrant.It explores themes like identity and the sense of belonging; how one would feel isolated and an outsider to the place they moved to/came from.
