Vincent DeLuca
Desert Angel
Vincent DeLuca is an award-winning filmmaker who has made documentaries on a variety of human rights topics. His work has screened at film festivals worldwide and has been employed by non-profit and global organizations to cultivate a deeper understanding of critical humanitarian issues. DeLuca is a Lincoln City Fellow and an artist in residence with the Resilient Artist Project at the Brehm Center. He is also a programmer and director of Industry Relations for the Salute Your Shorts Film Festival. Desert Angel is DeLuca's first feature-length film.
Growing up in a diverse neighborhood in Southern California, DeLuca witnessed friends who lived without legal status and was moved by the uncertainty and difficulties that they endured to provide for their loved ones. After a time living in Guerrero, Mexico, Vincent attended Duke University where he received both a law degree and a Masters in Latin American politics. DeLuca also worked with migrant farm workers through the Farm Labor Organizing Committee, practiced law at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego and spent ten years as the Director of International and Comparative Law at Columbia Law School.
In 2021, DeLuca received his PhD at the University of Amsterdam’s School for Cultural Analysis, focusing on the history and philosophy of political cinema, examining Latin American Third Cinema, the African American filmmakers of the LA Rebellion, and works by filmmakers like Lav Diaz, Mati Diop, and Merawi Gerima. In addition to his filmmaking, DeLuca is committed to educating new filmmakers and is a lecturer in Film Production at Loyola Marymount University. He is a member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA).
