Remaining Native

Ku Stevens is a 17-year-old Native American and is the solo runner at his high school with no coach. Living on the Yerington Paiute reservation in Northwest Nevada, he dreams of becoming a collegiate athlete at the University of Oregon. As he trains, unreconciled emotions unearth the memory of his great-grandfather who, at 8 years old, ran 50 miles across the desert to escape an Indian boarding school. Their stories become interwoven as Ku struggles to outrun his history or learn to run in parallel with it to achieve his dreams.
