H. Nelson Tracey

H. Nelson Tracey is a writer, director, and producer whose debut feature, Breakup Season, played to two sold-out screenings at PTFF 2024, winning both the Audience Award and a Jury Commendation for Screenwriting. As a 2021 Filmmaker in Residence at the Eastern Oregon Film Festival, Nelson first developed Breakup Season, which was filmed in the same community two years later. Returning the favor as PTFF's 2026 Filmmaker in Residence, he continued that tradition of location-driven storytelling while developing a new feature set in the Pacific Northwest. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Nelson earned a BFA in Film Production from Chapman University and now lives in Los Angeles. He also has a career in documentaries, and produced/edited Transforming the Beautiful Game which is an official selection at PTFF 2026.
