Andrés Clariond Rangel was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León in 1977 and is a film director and writer who holds a Master of Fine Arts in Film from Columbia University in New York. On his father's side, he comes from a family of prominent business leaders who founded one of Mexico's largest industrial groups; this includes his uncle, Benjamín Clariond, a former mayor of Monterrey and former governor of Nuevo León. Aside from making films, he is a political columist at Mexico's leading newspaper, Reforma. Clariond's projects have recevied two wins and four nominations.Versalles has gained international recognition at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival winning Nueva Vision Award.
